Getting Started with Stork Fertility Center (Examinations and FAQs)

E-mail：en_service@icryobank.comUpon Taiwan Artificial Reproduction Act, you need to prepare regarding documents to register IVF treatment in Taiwan, please contact our consultant team to request an appointment. Then, we will place you a personal consultant. Your consultant will evaluate your condition, help you with paper works before you come to Taiwan and arrange examinations during your first visit to Taiwan.
STEP2. The First Visit
Both you and your husband need to come to Taiwan during cycle day 7-11 of your menstrual period so that you could finish all examinations which doctors suggest at one time. Discussing with the doctor, get to know more detail of your personal IVF treatment. Meanwhile, we are going to analyze the sperm sample of your husband. Sperm analysis takes around an hour, so you will be notified about the result in the afternoon. Then, the sperm will be frozen for future insemination use. If it’s not allowed to be frozen, the husband should visit Taiwan again to collect the fresh sperm on the appointed insemination day.
Following are the four recommended examinations for the wife:
1.Blood work
- Blood type: confirm you and your husbands’ ABO and Rh type.
- HIV,syphilis
- TSH,PRL: If these two hormones exceed standard value, they will affect pregnancy rates and fetal development in gestation. You need to take medicines to control the level by the docotor's order.
- Autoimmune-7: For unknown reason recurrent miscarriage or repeated implantation failure women.
2. 3 in 1 test
The embryo will go pass cervix during the implantation. Some organisms are normally in the vaginal area, but some can infect the embryo. 3 in 1 test includes:
- Cervical Discharge culture
- Chlamydia DNA inspection
- HPV inspection
Q. How does 3 in 1 test be performed?
A. A doctor will use sterile swabs take samples from the cervix. The samples will be sent to a lab in order to see if any abnormal bacteria, virus or fungus grow.
Q. What should I do if I have bacteria infections?
A. A doctor may prescribe you a treatment, such as antibiotics or other medications for two weeks
Q. What should I do if I have Chlamydia infection?
A. Chlamydia will cross-infection by sexual intercourse. So the doctor suggests both you and your husband receive treatments of taking medicines together
3.Hysteroscopy(H)
Inappropriate uterus environment may be the reason for infertility. By a hysteroscope, doctors can directly observe the inside of the uterus and check if there are any polyps and fibroids.
Q. What are the common abnormal results?
A. Polyps, uterine fibroids, adhesions and uterine malformations.
Q. What if I have polyps?
A. The doctor will immediately remove polyps when you are be performed a general anesthesia, so you require NPO after midnight before Hysteroscopy test.
4. Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
Hysterosalpingography is a minimally invasive procedure with rare complications. About 20~25% of women are infertility because of fallopian disorder. Through HSG, a doctor can see whether tubes are blocked or not and the whole uterus size.
Q. How do HSG be performed?
A. A doctor will inject small amount of contrast medium into your uterus and it will flow through your fallopian tube. And then use X-ray to check your uterus and fallopian tube.
Q. What should I do if I have hydrosalpinx or blocked?
A. Hydrosalpinx might jeopardize the embryo because substances will flow to uterus from inflammatory fallopian tubes. In this case, Laparoscopic tubal ligation and medication therapy are suggested. After the surgery, the pregnancy rate will raise effectively.
Q. Does HSG hurts?
A. Few people do feel pain during the procedure of. However, the nurse will prepare painkiller for you in advance to reduce your discomfort and Stork Fertility Center apply the nonionic contrast agent, the rate of occurrence of side effects has been proven to be lower than the traditional ionic contrast agent.
In the afternoon, our consultants will accompany you and your husband to complete all the notarization process. Also, at the first visit, you will bring the implantation medicine back to your country. When matching a suitable donor, you can start taking the medicine by doctor's order. In this way, when your second visit to Taiwan, your embryos will be transferred!

Bank Director "Wan-Jung, Ashley, Hsieh"
Ashley has worked at another biotech company for a long time, and she came to Hsinchu city because of her husband's job transfer. It was very lucky to have Ashley at Stork Fertility Center, since she was a very energetic and optimistic team member. Ashley started her work here as both a consultant and embryologist. That's why she understood the feeling and psychological stress of these female friends. She stayed at the embryology lab for eight years, and was very familiar with the clinical side of IVF.
When she began to take charge of the oocyte donation, she found that so many people were eager to have their own babies, but no own "eggs" could be used. The requirement of documentation and matching process would provide her a chance to connect with the case tightly. She loved to be a "pen-pal" of these female friends, sometimes, even overseas friends.
She knew that being the egg recipient could be a dilemma to the couple. And, deciding to donate the eggs to the anonymous couple was a big thing for a young woman as well. It was not common in the traditional Chinese society, but it was the easier way to start a family for some couples (compared to adopted the children in Taiwan).
Thus she worked hard on this field, and finally helped the Stork Fertility Center to build its own oocyte bank.
The oocyte bank efficiently shortens the entire oocyte donation program, since the available oocytes were already cryopreserved and ready to be matched. Ashley now are the mother with two lovely kids, and she hope that all the women could as luck as her family.
A home-run in a seven-year game

I was crying when I saw the result of pregnancy test, since I have waited for these "two lines" at least seven years.
I came from Mainland China.
In 1999, I met my now husband at first time. Five years later, we started our relationship, and got married in 2008. I still remembered that our city held the Olympic game then (2008 Bejing Olympic). I was 25, and he was 26. We decided to start our family immediately, and got a positive result of pregnancy test few months later. The specialist of OBGYN gave me some progesterone medication to stabilize the uterine endometrium. However, it was gone eventually, and the doctor said it was spontaneous abortion.
I totally rejected this suggestion. (I tried to ignore that I have heard this option.) A baby from donated oocytes? Is the baby still "my own baby"? I even considered to leave my husband, because I loved him so much. Maybe it would be another way to let him have his own children. Fortunately, He was patient and calm, trying to change my mind.
Then we went to a big hospital for donation consultation together. They said the mating process would take 5-10 years. (!!!) I was 31 years then. Shall I wait for that until I was 40s?
One of my Taiwanese colleague recommended me to consult Taiwanese fertility centers. That's why I called to Stork Fertility Center. The matching time was much shorter than that in Mainland China, and it would take around 1-2 months. My personal agent at center arranged me to complete some documentations and sperm cryopreservation. Soon after, an appropriate donor was matched, and our own embryos were cryopreserved. Before the embryo transfer, I underwent hysteroscopy and hystersalpingography to check the uterine environment.
We stayed in Taiwan around one more week, and I got a positive test result 15 days after transfer. I was crying, because I have waited for our baby at least seven years. I still remembered the outcome of my first pregnancy, and thus I was very nervous in the following weeks. The pregnancy symptoms were severe this time, and I went to hospitals almost every week. I felt that I got stronger and stronger, just like my own baby.
In the end of 2015, it was a more important day than our marriage day.
We have twin girls. One was 2.25kg, and the other was 3 kg.
And we finally became the parents.
A turning point in my life — single embryo transfer in donor cycle

I have been to so many hospitals for taking IVF.
This time, I made up my mind to come here,
because I have heard that the oocyte bank at Stork Fertility Center was good.
I am 44 years now, and have no time to waste.
It's time to know the result of pregnancy test.
I did not want to do the urine test at home this time, because I was very familiar with the feelings of frustration and disappointment. My husband and I sat in front of the doctor's desk, waiting for the good or bad news.
"Congrats, the beta-HCG is 2000 mIU/mL. You got pregnant!"
My doctor smiled at me, but I was stunned then. Until we walked out of the center, I was just bursting with joy. We have waited for this baby at least 12 years. I even could not remember what I have experienced in the past years. Finally, I got my baby at 44 years of age after transfer only one single embryo. It was the miracle of the eggs, since these eggs were retrieved from a young woman.
Before taking the donated program, I have gone through so many cycles of my own IVF, but it just did not work. In the March of 2016, I have gone through cryotransfer with four Day3 embryos, and the outcome was as disappointed as usual. I asked my husband,
"How can I do? I have no time nor money. Should we continue to try more (IVF)?"
The journey seemed endless, and full of tears.

After resting couple of days, I decided to use "others' egg," since mine were obviously not good. I found the iCryobank website through net searching, and called to the center directly.
The lady there sounds patient and professional, and we arranged my schedule smoothly. My doctor examined my uterine state after the first visit to the museum-like center, and encouraged us to take the donated program.
Soon, a young donor was matched to us. Thirteen eggs were retrieved, and five available blastocysts were cryopreserved. The process took around three months.
The doctor suggested us transferring a single blastocyst, because both the morphology and developing time of embryos seemed good. I was wondered about the success rate, but finally agreed with the prevention of multiple pregnancies.
This Day5 blastocyst has become our lovely baby now. My family has started here. I was still proud of myself, for the decision at that day and for my own encouragement during this journey.
The best is yet to come

She was always gentle to the medical team.
Behind the smiling face,
We all knew the disappointments and frustration.
In the past six months,
No embryos were available for transfer.
She was a 45-year-old woman from Taiwan countryside, undergoing IUI five times and IVF twice. Still, no good news released. When she came to our clinic at the first time, she was arranged to take the oocyte-retrieval after two days for the observed dominant follicle. Unluckily, it was an immature oocyte. Since then, the fertility specialist recommended the natural-cycle IVF to her because of the declined ovarian function. No additional stimulation injections or oral alternatives were administrated, and supremon nasal solution was used as the trigger. From February to July in 2015, she visited the clinic almost every week, but no available embryo was collected.
She was always gentle to the medical team. Behind the smiling face, we all knew the disappointments and frustration. She told the doctor that she probably could not realize her dream. The fertility specialist encouraged her that there is not an only way to be a mother, and suggested her thinking about oocyte donation program.
Owing to the bountiful supply of oocyte bank at Stork Fertility Center, the matching process only took two months. In September of 2015, nine available blastocysts were derived and cryopreserved. Following with hysterosalpingography, hysteroscopy, and cervical bacteria culture, the doctor checked her uterine environment through several examinations. After the first cryotransfer, the beta-HCG showed negative. Her doctor ordered an auto-immune testing, and transferred her to the related specialists for further immune treatment.
In March of 2016, she took the second cryotransfer. The result was still upset. Why? Why? Why? She continuously asked the doctor and herself. Her specialist asked several questions about her life style after embryo transfer:
Her family owned a small business in Yilan. She needed to help and stand for a long time for the daily works. Although the doctor concerned the derived pressure to uterus, she refused to take a rest after transfer. The medical team did not give up and continue to convince her. Finally, she decided to grasp the chance.
The third cryotransfer was in July of 2016 after she arranged the backups for her family business. The fertility and immune specialists adjusted the post-transfer medications for her. She took two weeks for resting after the transfer and stayed at Hsinchu until the pregnancy test released. The beta-HCG showed positive this time, and the fetal heartbeat was detected after another three weeks later.
She was very happy and careful, coming back for the prenatal checks and related immune exams. In the 14 weeks of gestation, the non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) showed normal. Now, she was waiting for her healthy newborn.

Using the donated eggs or struggling with my declined ovaries made me confused on this journey.
I slowed down, and heard the voice in my heart,
"What do you really want in the very beginning?"
"Having a child, my Lord."
"Just follow your dreams, they know the way."
In the summer of 2015, I got an email overseas.
This mail was from Hong Kong, and also the first connection between she and me. She was my first "pen-pal" at the Stork Fertility Center, but not the first overseas friend here.
Our dean always said that there were four stations during the journey of having babies. Each person gets on the different trains in different times, at different places. The speed, the duration, and the starting/ending time are different as well. Ideally, this journey would be better at the age under 35 years. The second one was at the age between 35 and 37 years. Then it was at the age between 38 and 40 years. The last train was at the age over 40 years. On the last train, the cost was high and the duration was pretty long, but the terminal became uncertain.
When I received her mail, she was on the last train:
[I have undergone the IVF several times, and the harvested oocytes were very few. In the last one program, I only retrieved one oocyte while the ultrasound monitor showed that there could be four follicles. The only one had poor morphology and possible poor quality. My fertility specialist recommended me to take the donation program, since the ovarian function seemed significantly declined. I was very disappointed and confused. My mother expected grand children so much, and she was quite old. I don't know how I can do now.
I sat in front of the laptop, and googled for the donated eggs. I tried to slow down my thoughts, and heard a voice from heart,
"What do you really want in the very beginning?"
"Having a child, my Lord."
"Just follow your dreams, they know the way."
One night, I discussed the donation program with my husband, and achieved a consensus. We decided to visit your fertility center for the donation program.]
She mentioned the limited ability of Mandarin, and would like to prepare all the required documents before coming to Taiwan. I replied her questions step by step, and arranged the related body exams. Thanks to the developed SOP for overseas customers at Stork Fertility Center, she completed all the prerequisite preparation soon.
She chose the fresh donated-egg set, which the donor undergoes the stimulation and retrieval operation, and then the eggs are fertilized immediately rather than being cryopreserved. When I reported the outcomes of oocyte pick-up, she said, "how about the recovery? Is the process bad to her body?" She knew that the process could be very uncomfortable to some females, since she already underwent the IVF so many times.
Fortunately, everything went well. There were 16 available eggs, and 9 good blastocysts cryopreserved. In the following year, she underwent the first cryotransfer with a Day 5 embryo graded 4AB. Not too surprisingly, I received her good news from Hong Kong, and the precious video of fetal heartbeat. We both saw the primary photos of the baby in front of the computers.
This year, the healthy baby was delivered, and the mother recovered very well. She has promised us to bring the baby back for celebration.
2017, is a brand new beginning for her family.

Another way to be a parent—
Although she did not know her,
She appreciated her precious gift;
Although she did not know her,
She gave her the most precious.
Picturesque perched villages between the sea and hills in Provence, undeniable scents of coffee along the banks of Seine, night views at the Eiffel tower, puzzling criss-crosses of Louvre Pyramids, and all of these describe the romantic name— La France.
As a tour guide, she always traveled around the world. Optimistic, talkative, and open-minded, are her unique characteristics, and many customers were just attracted by this charming woman. During a private vocation, she met her Mr. right in an adorable city, the city of flowers and love, Paris. This time was not for the temporary guide works, but for the permanent living.
Although they got married later in life, they were not anxious about starting family, and enjoyed the couple's life so much. Until the husband would like to have a baby, she suddenly found that the fertility capacity was significantly declined. At age of 44 years, both the quality and quantity of eggs were limited.
She came back to her hometown for the fertility consultations. The specialist told her that having a baby at her age would be a hard and long journey. After discussing with the husband, they understood that the IVF success rate could be less than 5%, and it seemed very inefficient. They both agreed to register for donated eggs. During the matching process, she wanted to try autologous IVF for several times. If no available embryos harvested, they could use the donated eggs.

In the next 10 months, she underwent couple of IVF cycles, and one of the cycles was cancelled in the end. Since her husband must work in France, he cryopreserved sperms at Stork Fertility Center in advance. The specialist suggested her taking the accumulative strategy, which was collecting more blastocysts derived from multiple cycles. Until collecting enough embryos, two or three embryos could be transferred once to increase the possibility of implantation.
Disappointedly, only two available blastocysts were obtained within the 10 months, and she still wanted to get a try. However, the thoughtful husband did not want to give her too much pressure, and thus decided to use the donated eggs first.
The matched donor was a cute young college student with kind heart. She was very attentive to follow each step from doctors. The quality of her eggs were as good as her personality. Soon after, the recipient had a positive pregnancy test after transferring the developed embryo (single embryo transfer).
With great joy and expectation, the French husband applied for a long leave to accompany his wife. He helped her do the progesterone injections for luteal support every week. This couple would welcome their first baby in the most romantic country after another 10 months, and they promised the Stork Fertility Center to bring their baby back one day.
