Traps from delicious foods? Eat right and have better sperm

Do you like wearing a tight pants or putting your laptop on your thighs? These habits may affect the quality of your sperm. Besides, five types of drinks/foods may harm your reproductive system. Let’s check and keep in mind!
According to <<Epicurious>>, if the quality of your sperm is not good, it may affect your family plan. To maintain the good quality of sperm, the uptakes of following drinks/foods must be controlled.
Alcohols dehydrates the water in our bodies, and increases the risk of obesity, and reduces the mobility of sperms. We suggest not drinking alcohol more than once per week, and therefore the bodies can metabolize the alcohol. But if you have severe reproductive problem, it is better to quit alcohol.
2. Processed meat products
Bacon, ham and burger are delicious, but these processed meat products usually contain high proportion of saturated fat and hormone residues, which harm the quality of sperm. If you like meat, have the “fresh” one.
3. Sweet Drinks
Bubble milk tea or other sweet drinks contain high proportion of sugar reduce both the quantity and quality of sperm. It’s better for us to drink water.
4. High-fat dairy products
Milk, cheese and other dairy products can provide protein, calcium and other nutrients. But the high fat contained in these products may harm male’s reproductive system. Also, pesticide or hormone residues should be concerned in some dairy products.
5. Fruits with pesticide residues
Some of the fruits or vegetables may have pesticide residues, especially apples, grapes, strawberries, spinach, cucumbers, etc. We suggest choosing organic fruits and vegetables to decrease the risk.
Stay away from bad habits and unhealthy foods/drinks. Get your sperm good!

and overcame the premature ovarian failure and azoospermia eventually.
A quote of Taiwanese Poet, Xi Murong, is that “all in rush written in the book of youth.” Youth is like a blooming flower, at the brightest and most beautiful stage of the life. What is your definition of youth?
I still remembered the first day I met her. She came to our clinic for the health screening before getting married and prepared for the pregnancy. The uterine condition and fallopian tubes seemed normal. Unexpectedly, the chocolate cysts were found in her ovaries, with a declined AMH value as 0.76 mg/ml. The ovarian reserve showed severely declined, and it was unusual at her age (~20+ years).
Chocolate cysts is the symptoms of endometriosis which endometrial tissue grows out of the uterus, and in the ovaries. The cysts contain the menstrual blood, chocolate-like liquid, enlarging over months with the menstruation. Thus she often felt pain during the periods, but did not know the actual reason until now.
It was not the entire news. The results of her fiancé 's semen analysis displayed as azoospermia, which means that no sperm could be found in the ejaculated semen.
With such low AMH value, many people would choose to take the donated egg program. However, using the embryo generated from both donors' sperms and eggs is forbidden according to the reproductive legislation in Taiwan. The diminished ovarian reserve and azoospermia became two difficulties in getting pregnancy. Considering her age was still young, the fertility specialist recommended her to take the strategy of oocyte accumulation from multiple IVF cycles and to use the sperm bank.
She agreed with this suggestion. Instead of a fixed stimulation protocol, her doctor designed an individualized protocol to adjust her ovarian function. In her first IVF cycle, four mature eggs were collected and it encouraged them to continue the other programs.
Then their wedding followed behind.
In the wedding vows, they promised each other,

After becoming the husband and wife, they came to the clinic every month to continue the oocyte collection. It was just like running a marathon, and some accidents happened. Eventually, the egg collection took her almost 22 months.
The embryologists performed the artificial insemination using IMSI (6000x magnification) in her precious, frozen-thawed oocytes. The culture condition was controlled very well to grow the fertilized eggs into the blastocysts.
After transferring a blastocyst graded as 4BB, she finally got pregnant, and the beta-HCG level was 500 mIU/mL.
Youth is like a blooming flower, at the brightest and most beautiful stage of the life. Although the ovarian reserve was diminished, the quality seemed not being affected by the maternal age adversely yet. With her whole perseverance and spirit, they finally start a sweet family.

c. Agreements of IVF/Oocyte Recipient/Sperm Recipient programs
(Notes: If you are taking an sperm donating cycle, both agreements for IVF treatment and sperm recipient are required.)
Step 2. Examinations
Before starting the main treatments, several checkup exams must be done to confirm the uterine condition and male factors. They are listed as follows, (You can provide the clinical reports at your local hospitals, or just take the exams when you visit Stork Fertility Center. )
a. Sperm Analysis
b. Hormone tests (AMH, TSH, PRL, FreeT4 ...)
c. Hysteroscopy (The clinical report within half year is more recommended.)
d. Hysterosalpingography (The clinical report within half year is more recommended.)
e. Cervical culture (Chlamydia DNA test and HPV test are also recommended.)
f. Sperm Cryopreservation: If your spouse cannot visit us on the oocyte retrieval date, it is better to preserve his sperm sample in advanced.
g. Bring the prescribed medicines
(Notes: You may spend two to three days staying in Taiwan to complete the exams and required documents. For this visitation, it's necessary for both you and your husband.)

Sperm Recipient Program Procedure
1. Documents preparation:
a. Registration (please e-mail to our coordinators. see contact us)
b. Fill out Kinship form and get recipient consent notarized
c. Fill out IVF consent
b. Matching
2. Infertility workup
a. Stork Fertility Center will give notification if there’s suitable donor matched.
b. Please wire TWD 45,000 for the matching fee.
c. Please finish the following check up:
3. For IVF
a. Start stimulation process during MC day1 to day3.
b. Medication is around TWD 10,000-40,000, depending on your individualized ovarian stimulation protocol.
c. Follicle follow up by ultrasound during the course of the stimulation cycle.
d. Upon oocyte retrieval day, the fee for thaw sperm fertilization and embryo culture is around TWD 135,000.
e. Embryo culture to day7.
f. Embryo transfer is around TWD 50,000--60,000 per cycle.
4. For IUI
a. Start stimulation process during MC day1 to day3.
b. Medication is around TWD 40,000.
c. Follicle follow up by ultrasound during the course of the stimulation cycle.

“Excuse me. Do you have a sperm bank?” Her voice in the phone sounds with high expectation, though her question was straightforward. After my positive response, she talked over 10 minutes about her attempting to get pregnant. I suggested her visiting us in person while she can be available, so our doctor can give her clear information and she can know the precise process from our lab. It was only the morning, and then she took a long drive from Taipei and showed up in the afternoon. “What made a 34 year-old lady so proactive?” I wondered.She got pregnant in the first year of marriage, but couldn’t keep the baby because of blighted ovum. Although they keep trying, there seemed to be trials to this couple. Her husband was diagnosed with melanoma and treated as well, but they were shocked after finding no sperms in one analysis. After further biopsy results confirmed her husband’s azoospermia, they choose to face the reality and support each other approaching their clear goal.
Now their first goal is to bring back their baby home as soon as possible, so she came to e-Stork. The complicated legal procedure didn’t pull her back, and she didn’t even set up any criteria for the donor’s background. “Just healthy would be enough; I think the education after baby born would affect more.
I haven’t ever seen anyone finished the legal procedure and obtained all the documents that fast. After the examination, she took the first timing to boost the oocytes production. I am glad that e-Stork has a comprehensive service of sperm bank to deserve their efforts and cooperation; and her ovary is functioning well that we took 22 oocytes at once in her first two months coming here.
While we were incubating the embryos, she had to consider the timing for “moving baby,” as her students needs her attending their athletic meet just the day after presumed implantation. She was worried those sports may affect the implantation of the embryos. Even finally we decided to freeze 5 good blastocysts, she had concerned about if the frozen ones are as good as the fresh ones. “If the fresh ones can work better, I would try to give up attending the athletic meet,” she said.
However, she has poly-cystic ovary syndrome, and the doctor wondered her implantation window may already past. Since now the success rate of frozen blastocyst is as good as the fresh one, we suggested her wait for the coming month. “You have been very good since the beginning, how about we take a break and implant the beautiful baby while you are really ready?” Just as expected, the implantation next month was very successful; the frozen embryos stayed cool, and the hCG test showed clearly happy two lines. The sharp data shows all the joys everyone has.
Wherever there is a will, there is a way. Challenges come to our life without knocking doors. We may be afraid of being too late to say or do something. This couple touched me deep down by their spirit – regardless of struggle and challenge, just keep faith and working hard till the last minute. Now they have their happiness, and more than that, they have our blessings.
