When to take the oocyte recipient program?

The psychological stress was significantly higher in the patients with advanced maternal age. The uncertainty of each IVF cycle seems to make the journey endless, and the eight things to lead IVF fail could happen more frequently than those with younger ages. The question in each patient mind was that "how long should I try to get an IVF baby?"

The live birth rate per oocyte is averagely 3.6% in the women with age over 41 years, and it also means that accumulating 28 eggs is needed to have a baby. Since the outcome of each autologous IVF treatment becomes more unpredictable in the patients with advanced maternal age, the timing to consider the oocyte recipient program is very crucial. The time spent, cost, and efficacy of programs between the autologous IVF and oocyte-recipient programs should be evaluated completely.

Signs to consider oocyte-recipient program:

1. Over 43 years of age

2. Empty follicles existed in the previous three IVF cycles

3. No available oocytes retrieved in the previous three IVF cycles

4. No available embryos to transfer in the previous three IVF cycles
